2018 Dodge Challenger at Buhler Chrysler Jeep Dodge

Let's just reflect a moment on the weight of this fact: the Challenger's available 6.4L V-8 with 485 horsepower is the most powerful engine in its class. That wasn't enough for Dodge, they also upped the ante with the 840-hp Demon after ruling the category for years with the 707-horsepower Challenger SRT Hellcat. Then they unabashedly released an SRT Hellcat Widebody at the end of last year-- a car designed to be able to handle turns at high speeds with even more superiority than ever before! Dodge then unleashed an option for an all-wheel drive powertrain for the base V-6 engine, which is exclusive to its class, and assists owners in driving out of adverse road conditions. This is the stuff that makes fans of the brand, and it only gets better in 2018! One of those things is that the AWD Challenger GT has a choice to roll on 19" wheels with painted pockets.Others include that the 2018 Challenger reveals some finely-tuned additions, such as performance upgrades, Red Brembo brake calipers (certain V-8's), new standard furnishings, Nappa leather/micro-suede sport seats as part of a Package on select models, and several great (traditional as well as new) outer colors. The T/A, R/T, R/T Shaker, and SXT trims all rock a 7.0-inch 'Uconnect 4' touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, while a backup camera becomes standard across trims for 2018. All of this adds up to be quite the daunting wall for any competitors; Let's read a bit more as to what goes into this stellar ride.

What forces are channeled under the 2018 Challenger's hood?

The Challenger engines are all very powerful to begin with, and certain ones unlock for installation as you ascend the model roster. Both the GT and SXT models already start with a big leg up on the roads with a 305-horsepower 3.6L V6 engine with the option of rear-wheel drive or 4WD. The capable Torqueflight 845RE 8-speed automatic transmission comes standard with this engine. The 372-horsepower 5.7L Hemi V8 comes partnered up with a six-speed manual transmission, and owners should consider that they can opt for Torqueflight 8HP70 8-speed automatic as well. All V8 engine options are hitched to an 8-speed automatic transmission that could instead be traded for a six-speed manual transmission, it's your preference. Researching further, a growly 485-horsepower 6.4L V8 can be put into any of these models: the R/T Scat Pack, T/A 392, 392 Hemi Scat Pack Shaker, or the SRT 392-- and this will get you past a quarter-mile in just over 12 seconds. Not enough, somehow? Let us introduce you to the SRT Hellcat and the SRT Demon. In the Hellcat and SRT Widebody trims, an unbelievable 6.2L supercharged Hemi V8 has 707-horsepower. In the Demon model, it is specially made and generates an unholy 840-horsepower and an incredible 770 lb.-ft of torque (with 100 octane fuel and the Direct Connection Controller). The Demon has a whole host of impressive performance achievements for a production car, like the world's fastest 0-60 mph (2.3 seconds), the highest g-force acceleration (1.8g), and currently has the highest horsepower V-8 engine ever produced, to start with!

Apart from the engines, what items should I look into with the Challenger in 2018?

This track-blazing 2-door coupe comes in a variety of model choices-- 16, to be exact-- all of them exciting. The 1971-inspired Challenger muscle-car exterior styling includes points such as a working power bulge hood, a split grille, and LED halo headlamps, among other things. The high-sill center console can make a statement with historic Houndstooth cloth but can also represent modern-day via Pearl with Black leather performance seats. The SXT model's features can include Bluetooth, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a 6-way power adjustable driver seat, heated mirrors, 2-zone automatic climate control, keyless ignition/entry, and the 7" touchscreen. The SRT Hellcat shows off its quad exhaust tips, automatic wipers, and automatic high beams. The GT version incorporates all-wheel drive, a power heated steering wheel, rear parking sensors, satellite & HD radio, 19" wheels, and augmented brakes. Don't miss out on that the Challenger SRT 392 and SRT Widebody models gain access to SRT Drive Modes, which enable drivers to calibrate their driving experience by adjusting horsepower, steering, and transmission shift schedules. An 'Active Exhaust' is standard on all 5.7L HEMI V-8 models that has a distinctive Dodge muscle-car sound that everyone will notice! Note as well that with the SRT Demon model, there are many parts that do not come with it as standard, but can be added for literally one dollar each, such as a passenger seat, the Demon Crate, and a rear seat! The exclusive Demon Crate has signature tools, race components, and of course, comes in red and black with the SRT Demon logo.

Are there robust safety measures in place for this powerhouse?

The 2018 Dodge Challenger remembers to integrate safety, with items such as a solid high-strength frame, crumple zones in the front & rear to ensure excellent impact energy absorption. There is an array of advanced airbags and proven active head restraints, as well as a ParkView Rear Back-Up Camera. Look as well for blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and forward collision warning, which are all available as options for assistive safety systems. Of note is that the new 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Widebody can install 20" x 11" aluminum wheels, 305/35ZR20 Pirelli tires and electric power steering with selectable modes. This enables this model to ensure more traction and control especially on fast turns. The GT obviously can have all-wheel drive, but owners should know as well that there is a Hill-Start Assist, an all-speed Traction control, Keyless Enter 'n Go and available rain-sensing wipers.
